About NotebookLM
NotebookLM Enterprise is Google's licensed, source-grounded notebook service for organizing sources in global-location deployments.
Describe what should happen in NotebookLM, and when, in plain words. Whenever builds the workflow and runs it on a schedule, on a webhook, or when another app sends an event.
Connection requirements, provider permissions and optional AI usage apply. Read the runtime limits.
NotebookLM Enterprise is Google's licensed, source-grounded notebook service for organizing sources in global-location deployments.
Through its API, using the credentials and permissions required by the provider.
Connect Claude, Cursor or Codex to the Whenever MCP server and your coding agent can build and deploy the NotebookLM workflow. It runs on Whenever afterwards, on its schedule or webhook, with the chat closed.
Set up the Whenever MCP serverThis connection is for NotebookLM Enterprise, the Google Cloud edition of NotebookLM, not the free consumer app. The consumer product at notebooklm.google has no public API. The Enterprise API lives in a Google Cloud project with NotebookLM Enterprise set up, uses Google Cloud authentication and IAM, and addresses notebooks by project number and location. Google marks parts of it as pre-GA, so endpoints and behaviour can change and support is limited; plan for that before depending on it.
What the documented API covers is notebook housekeeping rather than chat. You can create a notebook, get it, list recently viewed notebooks, delete notebooks, and share a notebook with users at a chosen role. Sources can be added in batches from Google Docs and Slides in Drive, from web or YouTube URLs, from raw text, or by uploading a file, and each source can be retrieved or removed. An audio overview can be generated for a notebook, checked for completion, and deleted.
The useful automation, then, is keeping a notebook’s sources current. A research team may want this week’s set of reports added to the right notebook every Monday; a course team may want a notebook per module, shared with the right people, built from a folder list. The workflow does the bookkeeping, and people do the asking inside NotebookLM. Treat source processing as asynchronous: an added source is not immediately ready to ground answers, so check its status before telling anyone the notebook is up to date.
Sharing goes through Google identities in your organisation, and per-notebook source limits still apply. Record the notebook ID and the source IDs you added, so a rerun adds only what is new instead of stacking duplicates.
Authored starter briefs to configure with your accounts, not preconfigured workflows.
Batch-adds Drive documents as sources and records what was added.
Creates and shares a notebook when a project row appears.
Generates a fresh audio overview once new material has been added.
No public API is documented for the consumer app. The API described in Google Cloud documentation is for NotebookLM Enterprise in a Google Cloud project.
The documented API covers notebooks, sources, sharing and audio overviews. It does not document a chat or query endpoint, so questions are asked in the NotebookLM interface.
Google Docs and Slides from Drive, web and YouTube URLs, pasted text, and uploaded files are documented. Check the source page for current file types and size limits.
A Google Cloud identity with the IAM roles for NotebookLM Enterprise in that project, plus access to any Drive files you add as sources.
Google labels parts of it pre-GA, offered as is with limited support, so request shapes can change before general availability.
