About Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams integrates chat, video meetings, and file storage within Microsoft 365, providing virtual collaboration and communication for distributed teams
Describe what should happen in Microsoft Teams, and when, in plain words. Whenever builds the workflow and runs it on a schedule, on a webhook, or when another app sends an event.
Connection requirements, provider permissions and optional AI usage apply. Read the runtime limits.

Through its API, using the credentials and permissions required by the provider.
Connect Claude, Cursor or Codex to the Whenever MCP server and your coding agent can build and deploy the Microsoft Teams workflow. It runs on Whenever afterwards, on its schedule or webhook, with the chat closed.
Set up the Whenever MCP serverMicrosoft Teams is a destination for decisions and handoffs, not just a place to dump notifications. Start by choosing the team and channel whose members can act on the information. A support escalation should explain the customer impact, current owner and next decision; a purchasing reminder should identify the request and deadline. Put detailed records in their source system and send a useful summary with a link, rather than copying an entire private customer conversation into a wider channel.
A Teams channel and a group chat are different destinations with different identifiers and API operations. For channel messages, provide both the team and channel identifiers instead of relying on a display name that another team might also use. Decide whether each event needs a new conversation or belongs under an existing message. Incident progress often belongs in replies to one parent message, while a weekly department summary can reasonably start a new thread.
Microsoft Graph can send a channel message and can post a reply to a specified channel message. For ordinary channel posting through those endpoints, Microsoft documents delegated work-or-school access with ChannelMessage.Send. The application permission shown on those endpoints is for migration, not a substitute for an unattended notification identity. Tenant consent rules and the connected user’s access still matter. Do not assume that connecting Microsoft 365 automatically grants access to every private channel, chat or other team.
Keep the notification rule narrow enough that people will read the result. Microsoft explicitly says Teams must not be used as a log file through its messaging API. An overdue-task workflow should send one actionable digest rather than one message for every row it examined. An incident workflow should publish a meaningful status change rather than every monitoring sample. Define what counts as an escalation, how much sensitive detail is allowed, and which records should remain linked rather than copied.
The proposed workflows below use Teams as an outbound collaboration surface. They do not assume a bot is installed, promise tenant-wide message monitoring, or treat a posted request as a completed approval. Reading conversations, receiving change notifications and recording approval decisions require their own supported operations and permissions. For an incident reply, retain or supply the correct parent message identifier; a matching title is not enough to identify the intended conversation safely.
Authored starter briefs to configure with your accounts, not preconfigured workflows.
Turn an authenticated escalation event into a channel message that names the problem and the person responsible, without copying unnecessary customer data.
Bring overdue purchase requests from an accessible workbook into a purchasing channel, with source links and no implied approval action.
Route status changes for a named incident into replies beneath a supplied Teams parent message instead of scattering updates across new conversations.
The documented channel-message and reply endpoints support application permissions for migration, not ordinary notification posting. These briefs use the delegated work-or-school permission route. A different bot or app architecture needs its own supported setup and is not implied here.
Yes, the channel reply endpoint targets a specific parent message. Supply the team ID, channel ID and parent message ID. A channel name or message title alone is not a reliable thread identifier.
No. Microsoft explicitly prohibits using Teams as a log file through these messaging endpoints. Send messages people will read, such as selected escalations, meaningful incident changes or a concise exception digest.
No. A message can ask a person to review a request, but recording the decision in the source system is a separate action. These outbound briefs leave approval status unchanged.
No. Permissions, tenant policy and the connected identity’s access determine the available destinations and operations. Posting to a selected channel does not imply permission to read every chat or monitor the entire tenant.
